It would be interesting if some sort of positive reinforcement was
introduced to the game WOW, that's for sure. I can't wait to see the community
blog roundup on this topic later on! What I find interesting/challenging is that
most opportunities for being kind and nice come when dealing with new or
uneducated/inexperienced players who haven’t earn much WOW gold in this game.
I know that even pros enjoy cheery groups and would have plenty of chances
to upvote people, but I still feel that the people who deserve it most, those
who are really giving their time and energy and patience and know-how to a new
player, would see the benefits the least simply because that new and
inexperienced player wouldn't know about the upvote system or how to work it. It
would be really neat to see more people being nice, but seeing people say
"You're welcome for all the help, and oh don't forget to upvote me would leave a
bitter taste, I think. There's something really good about knowing that someone
is helping you without incentive and it makes you want to pay it forward in
WOW gold.
I'm also worried what sort of attitude something like this could breed in
the WoW community. Perhaps seeing people be nice only for the reward would make
players feel like it's even more of a selfish every-man-for-himself game, rather
than a friendly open and kind one. The other day I was in low level dungeons and
I was playfully accused of being a GM because I gave clear and concise advice to
the other players who don’t intend to buy WOW
gold from some gold-sellers.
I explained how to ask a guard for directions in the city, how to turn
growl off, how to zone in and out of the dungeon, etc, and being teased for
being helpful was kinda fun and it was a good run. If instead of hearing "You're
too helpful, too nice, you must be a GM" I was hearing "Quit trying to get
upvotes you idiot" I know I'd have hurt feelings and I'd really feel discouraged
about trying to be helpful in the future. As I said, it'll be really interesting
to see what the community has to say about this idea. I think there needs to be
more done about the bad apples in the game, but I personally don't know if the
change should be in the form of punishment or in the form of reward.
